John Alic left a tenured university faculty position in the late 1970s to join the staff of the congressional Office of Technology Assessment, where he worked until OTA’s demise in 1995. He has continued since to explore technological change and its ramifications, especially for policy, in contexts including military affairs, energy-climate innovation, and the US labor market. Alic’s recent publications include “Long Shot Research Won’t Fix What Ails US Health Care” (Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, May 2023). He is a graduate of Cornell, Stanford, and the University of Maryland.
